WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

This hands-on course is for users who want to build on Illustrator fundamentals and create more polished, production-ready artwork. Participants learn how to work with type, draw and edit paths, apply transformations, import and manage linked graphics, create clipping masks, and prepare Illustrator files for print, web, and use in other Adobe applications.

Our hands-on software training is delivered on-site or virtually to your organization by an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE). Training is customized to user skill levels and version being used within the organization.

Two modules are offered for each Adobe app. It is recommended to take both modules for each chosen topic, however, they do not need to be on back-to-back days. Half-day or advanced workshops are also available by request.

  • Convert type to outlines and sample attributes using the Eyedropper tool
  • Draw, edit, and refine open and closed paths, including straight and curved lines
  • Apply scale, rotate, reflect, shear, copy, and repeat transformations
  • Import, link, relink, update, and manage placed graphics and fonts
  • Save, export, and optimize Illustrator files for print, PDF, web, and other programs

  • Creating point type and area type
  • Changing Character/Paragraph attributes
  • Working with Type on a Path options
  • Turning type into objects – Create Outlines
  • Sampling attributes with the Eyedropper

Working with Paths

  • Creating open and closed paths
  • Drawing straight and curved lines
  • Modifying paths with editing tools
  • Tracing more complex shapes
  • Exploring layers and sublayers

Transformations

  • Scale and Rotate Tool options
  • Freehand, constrained and dialog box
  • Reflect and Shear transformations
  • Transform, Copy and Transform Again

Importing and Linking Graphics

  • Using Illustrator as a layout tool
  • Dealing with missing links and/or fonts
  • Links – Relink, Go To, Update, Edit Original
  • Importance of proper resolution at print size • Placing options – including Adobe

Bridge

  • Creating an Object Clipping Mask

Output and Exporting

  • Saving files for use in other programs
  • Save As Adobe PDF [select from presets]
  • Exporting to other graphic file formats
  • Preparing files for the web/multimedia
  • File > Save for Web [optimization options]
  • Printing options [page setup and tiling]

METHODS TO BE USED

This one-day Adobe Illustrator – Module II workshop is delivered as hands-on instructor-led training for groups of 4 to 20 participants. The course can be delivered on-site or virtually and can be customized to the version of Adobe Illustrator used by your organization. Participants work through practical exercises that reinforce type handling, path editing, transformations, linked graphics, clipping masks, and output settings.
