WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

While some accents are attractive and interesting, others may be so strong that listeners have to continually ask speakers to repeat themselves. This causes frustration and embarrassment on both sides and can result in the loss of valuable ideas and information. It can also impact promotions and the closing of business deals.

This workshop provides participants with the knowledge, tools, feedback, and practice materials to speak English with clear pronunciation and flowing words and sentences.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

Anyone who speaks English as a second language and wants to improve their clarity, flow, and intonation.

 

PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN:

  • To get their messages across to their listeners clearly, accurately, and confidently
  • To improve their pronunciation, word stress, sentence rhythm, and intonation
  • To understand their personal pronunciation errors and how to improve them
  • To perfect their pronunciation of consonant and vowel sounds of standard North American English

  • To improve their listening skills

Introduction

  • Setting goals
  • Understanding how speech pathology techniques work
  • Knowing how to practice after the workshop to make new skills permanent

Assessment

  • Assessing personal skills and measurements
  • Knowing exactly what your personal errors are and why

Pronunciation

  • Being clear
  • Pronouncing the consonant sounds of standard North American English

Word Choice

  • Learning about word “stress” and “de-stress”

Sentence Flow and Intonation

  • Learning about sentence flow and intonation
  • Understanding how to get your true meaning across

Practice

  • Putting it all together
  • Measuring the improvements in your skills
  • Developing an action plan for home practice

Summary and Evaluations

METHODOLOGY

This workshop works best for small groups of approximately 6 participants.

This workshop is highly interactive with all explanations accompanied by practice exercises; instructor feedback; and audio, video, and computer biofeedback. Participants also receive proven home practice materials.
